Mistral Europeans - Race day 2
    Posted On:  08/06/2004 09:11:47

The second day for Mistral sailors in Sopot was unexpectable because of very shifty and gusty – 8-13knots  - offshore wind. But the best sailors were the best again.

The races started on time. Looking at the windurfers in the morning, big stress was easy to notice. Alessandra Sensini didn’t give a smile to anybody. She was absolutely concentrated on preparing the equipment. Generally, the favorites before the Europeans in Women Division disappoint the fans. Well, as it is said “it’s the time for the fresh bloodâ€ . On the other side “the experience always winsâ€. Blanka Manchon from Spain is just 17 and just leaves the others behind her if she has a fresh wind. In the first race she was forced to sail with the group on the downwind and couldn’t approach to the gust coming from the other side. But in the last race of the day, she showed her high sailing attitude from the best side. Blanka is first in the overall but the best day takes Shiri Ron who collected just 6 points. Her playing on the ennoying shifts was so good as Bontemps’s tactics in Men’s Division. Julien was always on the good side and always was taking the best puffs. First race Joao Ridriques from Portugal took the victory to his pocket. Good for him! In the second race Bontemps started from the pin with Piotr Myszka from Poland. Both these sailors cought very good shift after the start. After they tacked on port all fleet stayed underneath them. Then, they were just fighting together with German sailor Aleksander Baronjan. Finally he had to give the precedence to Polish guy but this race gave him second place in overall standing. It was Julien who took everything winning this race with the incredible advantage of 4 minutes.

In the Youths Divisions Byron Kokkalanis didin’t look around. Although just behind him is Casper Bouman from Netherlands who likes this kind of wind. Everybody thinks it will be a spectacular fight between them especially that very strong wind is coming to the Sopot Beach Area. Maayan Davidovich from Israel is on the top of Youth Girls Division but her OCS goes out directly as a discard and makes Marina Alabau’s leading stronger. Polish sailors are playing among themselves in Junior Division. Lukasz Grodzicki kept the leader’s position. First little girl is on the 14th position – Tatiana Khaladzinskaja.

The evening in Sopot is much cooler than yesterday. But tomorrow’s racing will warm us up!
