Mistral Europeans - Race Day 4
    Posted On:  11/06/2004 13:30:35

The Championships in Sopot became very spectacular. Przemek Miarczynski and Julien Bontemps are going head to head in overall. French has two bad scores what can give him the disadvantage at the end. They left the others far behind them and it is the only thing to do – to win the Europeans. Who it will be?

Sopot was rainy today. The wind was 8-12 knots, very variable and puffy. It was turning progressivly to the north what delivered many problems to competitors and Race Commettee. Many general recalls in Men’s fleet were the sign of stress and unpatience. In the first race Julien Bontemps started above Pont who pointed him and forced French to tack. In this moment his fate was already sealed. “I did too many mistakes today. One after the otherâ€ – commented Bontemps after this unlacky first race.  Another French Nicolas Hueget dominated this run and finishing on the 6th position in the second race what gave him 3rd overall with the nice advatage on the 4th - Ukrainian Oberemko. He doesn’t do well what is really unusual that in this kind of light conditions he missed many shifts. The last race had the dramatic end when four sailors were ready to get as first to the line sailing out on leadership thanks to many irregular puffs and increadible pumping.  This battle won Julien on Joen Rodrogues from Portugal.

Situation in Women overall changed after today. Blanka sailed good but French Lise Vidal played on the shifts like the champion. Her constancy sailing in the last days gave her the leadership in Europeans. It was very good day for British Natasha Sturges as well. Faustine Merret from France was fighting with Jessica Crisp on upwinds but she was much better in pumping. Alessandra Sensini found her spirit. In the last race, after first rounding was 15th but fished this race on 1st thanks to smart sailing.

In Youth Girls fleet Marina Alabau is skilled amazing and just jumped from the others. Laura Linares from Italy wasn’t confused at all on this shifts and played the best in first race and came on 3rd place in the second one.

Youth Boys in top 4 are scored very close. Byron Kokkalanis stayed on the leader position but the best pumping was showed by Shahar Tzubari from Israel. His 1st and 2nd today looks very nice on the results.

Juniors had three races today. British Richard John Hamilton is satisfied becouse he was twice scored after the leader in this Europeans Polish Lukasz Grodzicki. This young sailor will defenetly suprise us in the future.
