Racing Catches Up - Following the 49ers on course area B, the Mistral Women went out to catch up with their schedule on what was initially a reserve day. They came out in the remains of the sea breeze that saw great racing for the 49ers.
In the updated Schedule published yesterday, only one race was scheduled for the fleet, and as they started the breeze was already starting to die off. When the wind is light in the windsurfing it is an incredibly physical game and as the fleet rounded the first mark, doing the outer loop course closest to the sailing venue, it was China's Yin JIAN who led by 20 seconds from France's leader of the ISAF World Sailing Rankings, Faustine MERRET.
But it was past master Lee LAI SHAN who grabbed the lead on the first downwind leg, a lead that she subsequently lost to Alessandra SENSINI, before Jian nipped it back on the final mark going to the finish. Sher came into the mark on starboard tack and as Sensini, coming in on Port, handbraked round the mark, Jian powered off to take her first win of the regatta.
Jian is now third in the results after the first six races and Sensini’s second ensures she keeps top spot ahead of Merret. Racing continues for the class tomorrow.
