THE ISAF WORLD SAILING RANKINGS - Mistral
    Posted On:  04/03/2005 21:49:17

The second release of the ISAF World Sailing Ranking for 2005 have been published today and include the results from nine ISAF Graded events including one World Championship, one C1 event, one Grade 1, three Grade 2 and three Grade 3 events.

    Windsurfer Men - Mistral

Four new sailors onto the ISAF World Sailing Rankings this month - from Greece, Turkey and the Ukraine - as result of the ISAF Grade 2 Athens Eurolymp which has just concluded.

Most of the top ranked sailors are taken a well earned break from the Olympic circuit, and few have got on the water since August. As an indicator none of the world's top 10 have competed since Athens.

At the top of the fleet the ISAF World Sailing Rankings are led by Maxim Oberemko (UKR), who hasn't been out of the world's top four for two years. Despite his performance on the international circuit, he couldn’t make the grade when it came to the Olympic scene last Summer. A similar situation for the second placed Julien Bontemps (FRA).

    Windsurfer Women - Mistral

With no events counting to this issue of the ISAF World Sailing Rankings, as the number of competitors (8) and nations (3) at the Athens Eurolymp did not meet the Grading Criteria, movements in position are as a result of the two-year rotation of the ISAF World Sailing Rankings.

The only significant change sees Barbara Kendall (NZL) drop out of the world's top 20, moving down from 19 to 24.

The Mistral fleet continues to be led by Athens gold medallist Faustine  Merret (FRA), a position she has held from 1 June 2004, chased closely by Silver Medallist Alessandra Sensini (ITA) in second.
