CASAGRANDE ONE STEP AWAY FROM THE EUROPEANS

The battle gets tough in European Mistral Class Championships when there is only one day left of windsurf races and the races held so far are 7. The first five places are untouchable, taken in possession by Hong Kong coached by the Olympic Champion Bruce Kendall, the results behind them heats up with an Italian challenge between Marco Casagrande and Alessandro Alberti in winning the European Championships. Today the wind came from a north-east direction and was slightly stronger than other days blowing at around 9 knots that got up to 10-11 knots at times, the wind let the athletes in the water carry out two races dominated by Cheng Kwok Fai. He practically couldn't be caught, the Chinese boy from Hong Kong came through the winning post with abyssal advantages on the rest of the group where his team mates were and Marco Casagrande, who at the moment stands the leader of the European athletes.

The Albaria's athlete fought hard against two Israelis Omri Hazor and Shlomi Ayubi, who both had a good quick start. Today's sixth and eighth place allow Casagrande to keep his first position, while behind him on the virtual podium are the two Israelis.

Alessandro Alberti was unfortunate in the first race as he broke his boom and therefore came in at 23rd place. In the second race his board was slightly over the starting line making him out of the race for an anticipated start. A joke for the Clubino del Mare's athlete who at the first buoy was second behind Cheng Kwok Fai, but then came in seventh. The podium is now far away for the athlete from Palermo.

In the women's category Chan Wai Kei continues to make an adventure for herself, recording her best performance yet in the seventh race coming in at sixth place. The European challenge is heating up with the young Greek girl Anastasia Davrou who tries to keep the Israeli girl Sivan Davidovich away by 5 points. The third European girl is still Maria Papadaki who boasts a slight advantage on Valentina Failla.

The last day of this event could still hold some surprises. Paco Wirz still his holds first place between the Master category even though he was disqualified for an anticipated start.

In the Nation Cup Hong Kong is flying in first place with Israel in second and an advantage of 20 points over Greece who are third. Ten points separate Italy from the Greeks.
