international mistral class organisation MOD - MJOD |
2006 annual report for MOD and MJOD Classes.
After three consecutive Olympic campaigns (1996-2000-2004) it is now time to re-organise IMCO federated Classes which have been very dependant on the Olympic status.
Still 2005 was a very good year with a bright World Championship venue in Sicily for MOD attended by competitors from 15 countries representing 4 continents and in Sopot Poland for the MOD Youths and MJOD World with 107 competitors from 16 countries over three continents.
2006 was still a very active year, with the valuable help of the Asian continent, and many European Countries, for example - Italy.

The European Mistral One Design Championship welcomed competitors from ISR, GRE, ITA and FRA. to which were added HKG and KOR under the Championship "open" format. Marco Casagrande from Italy and Anastasia Davrou from Greece won the Gold Medals.
The World MOD Youth and MJOD Championship was a success - with 52 competitors representing 5 countries from 2 continents, comparing favourably with other classes.
The World MOD championship is planned in Shenzen for mid October and results are not known when writing this report.
However 2006 has been and still is a transitory period between the past formats and new ideas which we could not apply yet. New possible orientations on which IMCO should project its activities in the future have been surveyed.
- To still concentrate on a real One Design practice for which the demand is still very strong in order to promote sailors skill rather than equipment investments.
- Organise Classes common World or continental Championships at the same time on the same venues to rationalize organization and travel costs.
- Build up a real Hybrid One Design Class based on the successfull "Mistral Prodigy" board and US Class.
- To mix high level sport events with leasure activities and tourism also have an open mind on generations activities Young, Youth, Senior, Masters, Veterans.
A Special Class General Meeting took place in Mondello during the May European Championship and a joint MOD and MJOD Classes Annual General Meeting was organized in Marsala during the Youth and Junior World Championship on the 1st of August. Both General meetings were quorate and confirmed the proposed orientations as from 2007.
Boards and More Gmbh have in turn confirmed their partnership for both the Mistral One Design and Prodigy practice at national and international level. One Design Boards, rigs and sails are being successfully manufactured and the hybrid Prodigy concept is expanding world wide with now more than 2000 units sold.
A new cooperation is being developed between IMCO and the "Mistral Club" Villages to widen the range of windsurfing disciplines offered to sailors.
Tunisian Authorities ( FTV) have given a positive reply to organise the 2007 World Championships in Djerba from the 27th October until the 4th of November.
It is now time to have a new clean start for IMCO classes in favour of this second to none Sport.
